My Background and Experience
Piano Since the age of 5 I have been tinkling the ivories! From a young age I worked towards Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) examinations in piano studying under Ruth Brammall and Jody Heald in Hobart. It was in 1998 that I obtained my Associate Diploma for Music, Australia (AMusA) in pianoforte which enabled me to start my professional career as a piano tutor. Since this time I have tutored piano students from the age of 5 to adult in all styles of music and have prepared many students for AMEB practical examinations including pianoforte and piano for leisure. I also have much experience in accompanying choirs, vocalists and instrumentalists having worked in colleges, high schools and primary schools. |
Singing
I have an extensive background in vocal, choral coaching and performing and obtained formal classical and contemporary singing training through Helen Todd and contemporary vocal training with Maria Lurighi. I have been singing on the Hobart jazz scene for 16 years as part of duos, trios and quartets including Eclipse, The Evan Carydakis Trio/Quartet and Greg Souter and Band at The Embers Bar and Grill. On occasions I have sung for the Matthew Ives Big Band. Over the past year I have performed on a regular basis with the Evan Carydakis Trio at various restaurants, vineyards about Tasmania alongside Berklee graduate Brendon Siemsen on guitar and Evan Carydakis (sax). I have performed at MONA on the grand stage including a performance in March 2014 with my own Eva Cassidy tribute as well as March this year (2016) as part of the Janelle Stowe Quartet with Hamish Houston (double bass), Sean Brady (drums) and Iestyn Parry (keys). In 2015 I released a jazz EP with Matthew Ives (kit), Dan Sulzberger (keys) and Nick Hart (Bass). Each year I partake in the Hot August Jazz Festival and I have recently been performing regularly at the Country Club Casino, Launceston with Brendon Siemsen. For the past 14 years I have worked with senior school choirs, junior school choirs, and have vocally directed and coached individual students and choruses for school productions including How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, The Pajama Game, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Smokey Joe’s Café (Director and Vocal Director), Jesus Christ Superstar, Dusty (at Claremont College) and Music Director for Witches of Eastwick (Rosny College). Currently I am working at The Friend's School and Hobart College as a Vocal Tutor and as the Vocal Director for Claremont College’s musical ‘Back to the 80’s. |
